Assessment Service

Occupational Therapists use assessments to understand how a person manages everyday activities through gathering information and observations to understand an individual’s strengths, challenges, and goals.

Occupational Therapy assessments are holistic and can encompass physical, cognitive, sensory, emotional, or environmental factors which may be impacting on an individual’s ability to engage in activities.

At Geronimo, we offer a range of assessments including:

  • Functional Capacity Assessments

During a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) your Occupational Therapist will complete a range of different assessments including an interview, questionnaires, and an observation to provide a comprehensive report which outlines your independence and support needs.  You will be required to attend multiple appointments so that your Occupational Therapist can obtain a strong understanding of your independence and support needs to provide a comprehensive report.

  • Fine Motor Assessments

During Fine Motor assessments, you will complete a range of activities so your Occupational Therapist can observe and identify why you may be experiencing fine motor difficulties. Your Occupational Therapist can help identify if the difficulties are related to visual-motor processing, coordination difficulties or fine motor barriers and provide support in how to improve fine motor skills or reduce discomfort.

  • Sensory Assessments

During Sensory assessments, you will be supported to consider how you respond to different sensory experiences and how your body processes sensory input. Your Occupational Therapist can help determine why you may be experiencing differences in the way you process and respond to sensory information, and provide support to understand your own sensory needs and identify strategies to support regulation.

  • Handwriting Assessments

During handwriting assessments your pencil grasp, posture, letter formation and handwriting speed and legibility will be assessed by your Occupational Therapist to support you with either improving your handwriting, or provide alternative strategies. Handwriting assessments are commonly used to support requesting accommodations at school.

  • Driving Assessments

During a driving assessment your Occupational Therapist can support  you with assessing your readiness to learn or return to driving, or review whether you are safe whilst driving. Your Occupational Therapist can help provide strategies or recommendations to assist you with your driving such as whether you require driving lessons or vehicle modifications to increase your safety driving.
