What goals can an Early Intervention OT support?

An Early Intervention OT looks at the key developmental milestones and targets the approach through providing support for:

  • Gross motor skill development (coordination, strength, balance)

  • Fine motor skill development (coordination, dexterity, grasp, strength)

  • Emotional regulation

  • Play

  • Sensory processing

Where do Early Intervention OT sessions happen?

While you can visit us at our clinic, Early Intervention OT’s usually work best in “natural environments”, meaning wherever your child usually completes the activities or skills is the best place for sessions. This includes:

  • At our clinic

  • At your home

  • At your early learning centre, kindergarten or school

Early Intervention OT’s can also work via telehealth to provide support to parents, carers, and other people involved in a child’s team.

What does an Early Intervention OT assess?

Our Early Intervention OT’s are qualified to administer the following assessments:

  • Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3)

  • Child Sensory Profile Assessment

  • Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration (Beery VMI)

  • Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency (BOT-2)

  • Informal observations
