Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy (OT) focuses on helping participants engage in the everyday activities that are meaningful to them.

Whether that is to learn a new skill, do a skill more often or engage in a skill that brings joy.

Geronimo supports individuals across the lifespan from 6-59 years of age. We tailor intervention in a range of areas such as emotional regulation, executive functions, collaborative social skills, sensory processing, daily living skills, school or workplace participation. Our therapists are equipped with the tools, assessments and clinical knowledge to achieve positive outcomes.

Our role is not only to build skills, but empower our participants with the confidence, insight and tools they need to participate fully in tasks that matter most to them.

Our Occupational Therapists work closely with individuals, their families, schools, and other supports, because we know collaboration is key to meaningful and sustainable outcomes.

Why choose Geronimo?

Our practice is guided by a neuroaffiming lens, recognising and respecting neurological differences as a natural form of diversity. Rather than focusing on ‘fixing’ barriers, we work to understand each person’s unique way of thinking, feeling, sensing and interacting with others and their environment.

Intervention with Geronimo focuses on building understanding, supportive strategies and adapting tasks/environments to ensure participation in ways that feels authentic, sustainable and empowering.

Our goal is to build meaningful therapeutic relationships with participants and their families, as we understand that meaningful progress occurs when participants feel safe, heard and understood. Establishing strong therapeutic relationships allows Geronimo to work collaboratively with our participants to build upon their unique goals, strengths and challenges. This enables Geronimo to tailor support, rather than applying a ‘generic’ approach to an individuals need.

Where do we meet?

At Geronimo, we recognise that therapy is most effective when it occurs in environments that are meaningful and accessible. We offer sessions flexibility across home, community, school or clinic settings, allowing intervention to occur where skills are used naturally and where our participants feel most comfortable.

We have clinics located in Geelong and Melton.

Assessments

Occupational Therapists use assessments to better understand a person’s strengths, challenges, goals and environments to support intervention planning. Assessments provide valuable information about how someone is functioning in their everyday life and help identify what supports will be most meaningful and effective. By using evidence-based assessment tools alongside clinical observation and conversation, our Occupational Therapists can develop targeted, personalised interventions that are goal-focused, practical and responsive to each individual’s needs.
