Starting a role at Geronimo… the New Graduate Handbook!

As a team leader at Geronimo, I have the pleasure of training and upskilling new OT’s that join our team. Having a new member join our team is incredibly exciting for me, and to be a part of their professional growth journey is highly rewarding!

As I have worked within the industry for a long time, I slowly began to realize the amount of knowledge I picked up along the way. I feel like I take these learnings and experiences for granted, and the amount a new graduate needs to learn can feel overwhelming.

Reflecting on my own experience, a lot of time and dedication (often outside of work hours!) helped me to understand the field I am in, and the broad nature of the role I work in daily. The management team and I decided to support this process more, with the development of a workbook for graduates to work through in the Graduate Program.

The ‘New Graduate Workbook’ was something myself and the rest of the management team took a lot of pride in. We brainstormed the key areas of knowledge needed to commence work in this field and developed content for New Graduates to utilize. This 120 page book is basically the ‘encyclopedia’ for working as an OT under the NDIS, as well as a review into the intervention areas we commonly come across at Geronimo.

The feedback I have received from those who have completed the workbook has been very positive. This experience has been highly rewarding to be able to provide the team with access to learning and resources to start their journey as an OT.
